Narita town hotels Tuesday, 3/11/08, 5:12 AM

Narita town said to be a very nice laid back intro to Japan, with restaurants and a walk by the ponds especially recommended. This promising hotel in Narita belongs to Pan Pacific Hotels chain. But there are several other hotels and ryokans [one with traditional armour and one with a garden ¿ see Lonely Planet guide] in Narita, as well as two tourist bureaus who can make reservations. See also nearby Makuhari beach and possibly also Disneyland. Car hire from Narita? Try Avis first. Shuttle buses run to airport from the big hotels, and from there trains to central Tokyo take about 80 minutes - beware of taking large bags, especially in rush hour; a courier service signposted in English at the airport will take them for you, at about £10 per large bag.

Prices travel & accomodation 2007 Saturday, 1/27/07, 9:07 AM

Taxis, food and accomodation are all very reasonable in Japan, especially in 2007 while the yen is still down. For cheap accomodation check out the famous pod hotels or, for only £5/night, larger pods in a Media Cafe. For travel, the Japan Rail Pass costs about £135 for 7 days and is one of the worlds best travel bargains, although it does not cover the very fastest of the bullet trains.
